Pat and Mike approached me to design and build a modern, environmentally friendly home in a stunning setting overlooking Mylor Creek. We ended up designing a Scandinavian style house that, although not formally certified, had all the features of a Passivhaus. Its super-insulated structure, triple glazed windows, a small woodburner, heat recovery ventilation and large array of photovoltaic solar panels, meant that there was no requirement for central heating. Even though the house had underfloor heating installed as a back-up, it was never connected and proved unnecessary.
“Having carried out careful design, the build process was efficient and without delay. Even though we experienced the coldest winter in many years during the build, the house was completed on time and within budget and to very high standards. The concept of the house has proved exceedingly beneficial both from the point of view of comfort and cost. Having lived at the property for 7.5 years, the high spec build has proved very worthwhile and cost effective.”
